I never dreamt that my attempt to keep myself busy in retirement without upsetting anybody or damaging anything would turn out like this!
Despite spending decades writing for other people, I found it nerve-wracking to put my head above the parapet, so to speak, and invite others to judge my own work.
That's why I always feel incredibly grateful to get a good reader review, or to receive some positive recognition from organisations like Literary Titan, or to hear somebody ask me how the writing is going without me raising the topic in the first place!
It keeps me writing, or thinking of new stories, or working out how to best promote my books in an extremely competitive marketplace. It also stops me doing DIY and wrecking the house, or choosing a new, incredibly costly hobby that results in a saxophone gathering dust in a corner, or an astronomical telescope collecting cobwebs in the garage...
Not all the nonsense ends up in the novels. I save some of the best stuff for my mailing list. Current subscribers just received two songs and a short story recounting how one man dealt badly with retirement (no, it wasn't autobiographical - I wouldn't know a store detective if their 'Store Detective' badge hit me in the face, never mind identify them and offer them a negative critique of their work).
If you fancy some of that tasty free stuff, just fill in the details on the form at the bottom of the home page and brace yourself for impact!
Thanks to everyone who is making this such an enjoyable and interesting journey. I couldn't be doing it without you!
